What is Memorial Day to you?

A day off work? The beginning of summer? Parades and B~B~Q's? The opening of the public swimming pools? Have you ever thought about it? Does it mean anything special to you?

If public opinion surveys are accurate, most Americans don't really know much about Memorial Day's meaning. That is sad to me because it is our great nations way of honoring those brave men and women who have given their lives to protect each and every one of us.

Did you know that more than a million American men and women have given, as Lincoln described it at Gettysburg, " the last full measure of devotion. Their valor and sacrifice made possible our freedoms, our values, our very existence." Where do you think we would be today if they weren't willing to make this sacrifice? The thought is very scary to me.

Memorial Day should be a time of solemn reflection on some of the most sacred human ideals: Faith, Family, Duty, Commitment, Heroism and Honor. The debt we owe those soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen who have given their lives defending us is a debt we could NEVER even begin to repay.

On this very special holiday I hope you will all take a moment between all your activities with family and friends to reflect on their sacrifices and truly be grateful to them for their service.

I want to give special thanks to all of the GREAT men and women who are so willing to fight for us so that we can continue to enjoy all the freedom we take for granted in our daily lives!

~GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU~
