To My Dad on Father's Day

Dad,
Where do I even start? I guess I will start by saying the first two things that come to mind. Thank you and I love you.
You are, without a doubt, the greatest man I have ever known. I cannot think of a single man that can compare to you. You have been everything as a dad that a daughter could ever want or need. You were kind and loving to me, providing for my all needs as well as many of my wants.
Thank you for being so good to mom. You always loved her faithfully, even when times were hard. I know how to love my husband now because you and mom showed me how for all those years. How does a young woman even know how to be married or how to love her husband without the kind of example I had in you?
Thank you for being there. You were always there for me when I needed you. You worked so hard all those years to give us a good life. The constant presence in my life that I needed so bad, and still need now. I know you are still there for me if I need you even though I can’t see you. I feel your gentle touch and feel the comfort of your love.
I am so sorry that you had to suffer the last several years of your life. I know it was even more difficult than I could ever dream, but even as you struggled for every breath you did everything you could to be there for me. Thank you for fighting to stay with us for so long. You could have given up so many times, but your love for your children, and your grandchildren made you stay here and fight a little longer. I wanted you to keep fighting because I still needed you and couldn’t handle the thought of not having you to lean on like I did so many times but, I knew your journey here was finished and it was time for you to join mom and Jeanette again. It was so hard to say goodbye to my hero but I’m also thankful I was given that opportunity because it was much harder letting go when I didn’t get to say goodbye to mom.
Finally, on this Father’s Day, I want you to know how much I still need you. I could not imagine a world without Golden Eyre; I know that you live on in my heart and I’m so thankful for that. I always think about you and feel loved, secure, safe, and cared for. You are the one I called for advice, for wisdom, and for encouragement. The thought of not being able to see you or pick up the phone and hear your voice made me afraid. What would I do without you? Who would I be without you?
You chose to be a dad to me. Somehow by God’s grace, you were everything I ever needed. You were perfect, the perfect dad, my friend, and my hero. I love you more today than I ever have. Happy Father’s Day, dad Love,
Linda

WoRk~wOrK~WoRK!

I swear that is all I do. Things have been pretty slow at my regular job so I have only been working 3 days a week (not enough for this poor old woman). I kept hoping it would pick up and I would see more hours but it's been a year of 3 days (unless someone is sick or something...and I wouldn't wanna go around wishing for someone to get sick). Anyway, I decided I needed to start looking for a part time job to help my situation a bit. I saw that a local meat packing plant was hiring someone to be their market clerk. one or 2 days a week.....PERFECT...or so I thought. At my interview they told me that they didn't think anyone would be interested in a 1 or 2 day a week job (I would have been) so they combined it with another part time position on the weekends. they said it would just be 4 or 5 hours Saturday and Sunday straightening up the break rooms in the 3 buildings the plant has. Well, I thought "I can do that!...no problem" HAHAHAHAHA I went through their 20 hours of orientation which was very informative. I started Saturday....OH MY....Not even close to what I was expecting! I was trained by the housekeeping warden from hell! She checked everything before I cleaned it and even used her camera on her phone to take pictures of underneath the toilet! EWWW... She had me scrub the break rooms...the bathrooms...the hallways...the offices in 3 huge buildings. I worked non stop for 9 hours with her cracking her little whip....went home in tears...and begged Barney not to make me go back the next day. After thinking about it I decided to at least give it another chance. Sunday I was trained by a different girl and it wasn't near as bad. I'm going to give it a month and see if I can deal with it I may have to find something different. The market clerk job should be fun. I'll find out tomorrow.

Relay for Life ~ 2010

We went to our local Relay for Life last night. This is a fantastic event to attend. My family has been impacted by cancer in many ways and it's incredible to be a tiny part of all the good that this fund raiser does while celebrating the lives lost, the lives saved and those courageous people that are fighting for their lives now.
Even the drizzle of rain that would not stop didn't dampen the event. Hmmm, maybe that was just a few angel tears for those that have lost their battle or are still fighting.
I have a sister, father in law and grandfather that lost their battles, a sister that is in remission for a second time and a brother that has been battling this horrific disease for over 2 years now. The luminary ceremony is one of the most touching things I have ever been a part of. It touches that part of my heart that makes me all blubbery. When they start reading the names of those great souls that have had to fight for their lives it's very humbling and helps me put all my small troubles into perspective. I am so thankful for my many blessings and my wonderful family.
