I got a phone call at work. It was my sister Kari. She frantically informed me that my brother Mitch had been taken to the emergency room and they were going to life flight him to University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake. He was bleeding into his brain.
OH NO!! I panicked!
I left work immediately and headed for the hospital. I don't know what I was expecting to find when it was finally my turn to go into the room and see him but, I was happy to see he was alert and joking regardless of the extreme headache he was suffering.
The type of leukemia he has affects the platelets in his blood (which is what makes your blood clot) there should be hundreds of thousands in you blood. His had dropped to 3,000 ...........EXTREMELY critical. They think that might be the reason for the bleeding. I am still pretty confused about what exactly they do for this. I know they were pumping platelets into him and had him in ICU so they could watch him closely. That's ALL I know. It's so frustrating and scary for me. I am soooo worried about him and his family and feel so helpless...(SIGH) ok I feel better now.
I think I can put that smile on my face and resume the positive attitude awhile longer.
